Right Place, Right Time
Today was quite cloudy. On the verge of rain all day but not quite enough moisture to actually bring rain. I thought to myself, no sunsets today. I still played with some photography in my backyard but had little hope for going out and trying to get a landscape.
I needed to run to the store and decided to bring the Canon 5D Mark II and the 24-105 f4 lens along just in case. Near the gas station I go to, there's a really nice view looking down on the valley and I always thought I should get up there with a camera.
After I was done at the store, I figured I'd go scout a spot for when there is a sunset so I'm prepared next time. Trying to add spots and compositions to my personal catalog for future use. Well, while scouting for a spot, a sunset started happening as the clouds broke and the sun dipped below them. It was awe inspiring to see.
I pulled over on the side of the road (still need to find a good spot but this worked). I started shooting, wishing I brought a tripod because the dynamic range was going to be an issue...for any camera let alone an 18 year old sensor. But, it worked out and this was the best composition of the many I shot. I really like that the road curves up and is catching the light. Really happy with this. Yes, landscapes are hard, but sometimes the Lord hands you a gift.
